Axminster fire crew called to carbon monoxide leak

Firefighters were called to a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at a residential property in Axminster in the very early hours of Thursday morning.
Axminster fire crew were called to the scene at 12.42am and their gas monitoring equipment detected high levels of carbon monoxide at the property.
They evacuated the occupant, ventilated the property and isolated the gas boiler, while two firefighters with breathing apparatus tried to identify the source of the leak.
The issue was eventually found to be a car with its battery being charged in the adjoining garage.
The crew isolated the car battery charger as a precaution and ventilated the garage through natural means. They then re-checked the garage and confirmed the alarm was no longer reading for carbon monoxide.
After being give some some safety advice, the occupant of the property was allowed back in and the crew returned to the station at 2.30am.
