A group of volunteers led by businessman Laurence Norman has raised £14,000 for a charity known as Axminster's 'hidden gem'.

The ten supporters of the Arc charity did it by undertaking a night-climb of Mount Snowdon.

Among those who took part in the climb was county and district councillor Ian Hall, who is vice-chairman of Axminster Arc.

Mr Norman commented: "The climb was a great success. We have raised more than three times more than we had expected.

"The whole team is so thankful for the community and all our friends who have supported us."

The team doctor, Barry McKenna, said: "The amount we have raised will keep Arc seeing patients registered with Axminster Medical Practice at the time when they need the urgent help and support."

Arc has also received a donation of £210 from Axminster Tesco community fund.

Arc provides easily accessible, flexible, local counselling and psychotherapy at the heart of the community.

The service supports the personal recovery of local patients registered at Axminster Medical Practice, who are seeking help through times of profound change, trauma and loss.
