Sports in Axminster

Axminster Town Under 10s travelled to Salwayash to play Bridport in a friendly for their first 9 versus 9 game with offsides producing a good overall performance.

The boys started slow for the first 15 minutes until they found their groove, thereafter the coaches and parents saw some lovely football, the larger pitch suiting their play, with some nice wide passing, one-twos and through balls keeping the Bridport midfield and defence busy.

Lyme Regis Football Club have announced that regrettably they are withdrawing their third eleven, Lyme Rovers, from the Perry Street League.

Although they had 70 players signed on at the beginning of the season, like many other clubs the Seasiders have found it difficult to fulfil  fixtures for their three teams and have come to the conclusion that they have no option but to withdraw Lyme Rovers from Division One.

Uplyme 1sts ran out 9-1 winners against a Witheridge team that started out well and disrupted the home team's usual smooth passing style.

It was a very frustrating first 10 minutes, which was made worse when skipper Wes Holmes jumped for a header in his own box and was adjudged to have fouled the defender. It was dispatched past makeshift keeper Alex Jones.

The crowd applaud Axminster Town as they take the field against Exeter City

History was made at Tiger Way last evening (Wednesday) when Axminster Town crashed out of the Devon St Luke's Bowl.

A crowd of 502, the biggest ever, saw the Tigers lose 2-0 in the quarter final to Exeter City's Academy Under 18s, holders of the trophy which is Devon's senior cup competition.

Another hole in one for Richard Gibbons at Axe Cliff

The Men's section at Axe Cliff Golf Club have been active as always with completion last Sunday of their Daily Mail Foursomes competition.

Messrs D. Hales and D. Hodder won with a very good net 63, beating the strong pairing of A. Anning and J. Gait who had 65, leaving Seniors Stuart Mackie and Alan Morgan to take third spot with a fine 68.
