LYME Regis 1sts started well at Dawlish United yesterday, carving out numerous chances with Joe Bond, Ben Vine and Brad Rowe all missing guilt- edged chances and a seemingly blatant foul on Fred Parsons in the area ignored by the referee.

It wasn't until the 30th minute that Brad Rowe side-footed home from 10 yards to break the deadlock.

Lyme continued to push with the front three looking very dangerous but not able to apply the finishing touch.

On the stroke of half-time disaster struck for the Seasiders as Dawlish won a corner with their first meaningful attack. The resulting corner was bundled home leaving the game finely poised at 1-1 at the break.

The second controversial moment occurred shortly after half-time with Dawlish being awarded a penalty when stand-in goalkeeper Dan Rendall was adjudged to have caught a striker as he punched the ball clear. The penalty was scored to give the home side a 2-1 advantage.

This promoted a chaotic ten-minute spell as Dawlsih went ahead with their next attack as a miss- hit shot looped over Rendall for their third goal.

Even worst was to come as an obvious handball was missed and then as the Dawlish player cleared the ball downfield, it completely surprised stand-in keeper Rendall and bounced over his head into an empty net.

Lyme attempted to rally as Fred Parsons cooly slotted home from inside the area moments after the re-start. This sparked another spell of domination with Vine and Rowe blazing over from close range and another one-on-one was well saved by the Dawlish glove man.

Lyme were caught again as they pushed with an long ball over the top was dispatched by the pacey Dawlish frontman. Lyme immediately gave themself hope once more as Kieran Daniels forced an own goal to make it 5-3.

The remaining ten minutes were once again one-way traffic with Lyme creating and missing chances as the ref waved away another big lyme penalty shout for handball.

Bizarrely, Lyme will feel that they defended well and limited Dawlish to two or three chances throughout the game while missing countless opportunities themself and the big decisions going against them.

Comment from managers: "It's odd to completely dominate a game yet be on the wrong end of the result. Dan Rendall came in and helped out in goal so no blame can be laid at his feet, we were just incredibly wasteful in front of goal and that cost us"

Despite this result, Lyme tay in second place in the Devon and Exeter Premier East division but lost their top place to Feniton who drew 2-2 at Chard Town. Next Saturday (May 8) the Seasiders are away to Chard Town.
