Ray Self, the former player, manager and chairman, is back in Tiger Way, the home of Axminster Town Football.
Self oversaw the move from Sector Lane, the Tiger's iconic ground for more than a hundred years, to a £1million plus complex off Chard Road, providing some of the best footballing facilities in the West Country.
During this period Axminster decided to come out of the Perry Street League and work their way trough the Devon and Exeter League, topping the Premier table in 2007, and gaining admission to the South West Peninsular League where they now have a place in the Premier East Division, the highest standard that Axminster Football Club has played since its formation in 1903.
It was a hugely challenging time for the club as it had to deal with a number of issues with the developers, Devonshire Homes, who acquired Sector Lane for housing in exchange for building the new complex at Tiger Way which which includes two full-size pitches with impressive changing a social facilities.
Cub chairman Andrew Hurford has conformed that Ray is back in the fold as commercial manager and ambassador, a role he is well suited to, being highly respected in local football circles, and with with his experience of fundraising during the formative years at Tiger Way.
- Axminster Town is expecting to make an announcement about the appointment of a new manager this weekend, having parted company with their former management duo of Josh Stunnell and John Clements.
