Securing a future for Axminster Carnival
Although Axminster Carnival procession was cancelled for second year due to the COVID-19 epidemic, committee members have been working hard to secure a future for the town's favourite night of the year.
The procession – once billed as the "Best In The West" - should have taken place on Saturday, but the streets were strangely quiet with the exception of the Webster's car park where Herberts Fun Fair was in full swing.
The family-run attraction has been supporting Axminster Carnival for more than 100 years and proved to be as popular as ever.
A number of fundraising events were held during the week, including a well supported coffee morning and cake stall in the Church Room which raised more than £560, including donations.
Other events included bingo at the Guildhall and a window spotting competition.
A spokesperson for the carnival committee said: "Axminster Carnival Committee would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all our friends and supporters who generously donated cakes, scones and many wonderful sweet delights to our coffee morning. The sales of these, along with the generous gifts donated for the raffle has resulted in a massive £562.79 being raised.
"These funds will be used to help secure the future of our beloved Axminster Carnival. Without everyone's help we would be unable to hold such wonderfully supported fundraising events."
