The new shoppers and visitors map for Axminster, launched this week, is all a part of a campaign to encourage traders to feel more positive about Axminster and be proud of their town.

Totally Locally Axminster, the group which promotes independent traders, is promoting the new map which the Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow, unveiled on Monday. A copy is displayed on a panel next to Boots.

Barrie Hedges, the driving force behind Totally Locally Axminster, has explained the thinking behind the map.

Writing on the Totally Locally website, he said: "Many of you will have seen the new Axminster Shoppers and Visitors Map. Pocket-sized folded versions are free and are available initially from Axminster Printing, Archway Bookshop, Collate Interiors, Acorn Gift Shop and Lou La Belle. More outlets to come.

"I stress that it's essentially a shoppers and visitors map covering the town centre. There simply isn't room in a highly visual format like this for all the other businesses and for outer areas. Hopefully, that will follow in a full business index for the town.

"We printed in January and it's already out of date on some detail. That's inevitable but we will update periodically, so please let us know if you think you should be included in the next run.

"More than anything, I hope it will help everyone to feel positive about Axminster and proud to be a part of it."
