A vacancy has arisen on Axminster Town Council following the resignation of Carol Doherty.
The resignation was formally announced at Monday night's full council meeting.
A statement from the town council said: "Carol has served the town council, and wider community, for more than six years and the council wishes to express its thanks for her selfless and valued contribution to the town."
Speaking at Monday night's meeting, the Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow, said she regretted the resignation of "my friend Carol", but said she was unable to continue with her council commitments on top of work.
Cllr Farrow added that Carol had bravely continued to serve on the council for a full year following the sudden and tragic death of her best friend, Anni Young, who died in December 2020 while serving as Mayor of Axminster.
Her resignation has created vacancy for the Town Ward on Axminster Town Council.
A council statement said: "We would encourage anyone who wishes to help their fellow residents and work towards the ongoing improvement and betterment of the town to step forward and take on this role."
