AXMINSTER Town have won a place in the quarter finals of a Devon county cup competition for the first time.
Last night in the Devon St Luke's Bowl they beat Elburton Villa 2-1 at Tiger Way with goals from Jamie price and Joe Chamberlain.
INrecent past seasons, Lyme Regis first team's defence was always the rock on which the Seasiders built their rise to Premier football in the Devon and Exeter League and numerous cup successes in Dorset.
This season, however, the Lyme back four have had more leaks than Lisa's bucket and a Conservative government put together.
Uplyme 1sts travelled to Exeter to face St Thomas Social FC, the last unbeaten team in Devon and Exeter Division Six.
Other teams had already mentioned what a physical, unpleasant challenge they would face, but the young side set out trying to play their usual brand of football on a very tricky pitch.
LYME Regis Reserves moved into second place in the Devon and Exeter Division Three with a 2-0 win away to Hemyock despite fielding a bare 11 and no recognised goalkeeper
Once again the condition of the pitch did not suit Lyme's possesion-based tactics, but in the end they created enough chances to run away with the game.
Axminster Town's good run of form continued on Saturday with a convincing 4-0 victory over South West Peninsular Premier East basement boys Stoke Gabriel and Trbay Police.
The victory sees them in eighth place in the table, with eight wins from their 15 games, four draws and three defeats.
Last Wednesday Axe Cliff Golf Club Ladies played the last round of their Axe Cliff Cup and as a medal. Whilst I cannot tell you the winner of the prestigious trophy,
The Seniors have been busy lately joining the Ladies in the popular Gruesome Cup. In no particular order the Mars' bars were won by captain John Hanna andJanet Dack, but the cup holders are now Barbara Cummings and Paul Curtin.
The managers report:
Beer Albion 1sts 1, Lapford 2
