After finishing 2021 on a high, the New Year has so far proved fruitless for Beer Albion with both sides being defeated two weeks running.
Stellar performance from Parsons as Lyme progress in East Devon Senior Cup

LYME Regis first team booked their place in the second round of the East Devon Senior Cup with a comfortable 3-2 win over Tipton St John at the Davey Fort.
The ground conditions prevented too much free- flowing football and the Seasiders failed to replicate last week's exciting display in a 4-3 win at Beer Albion, although there was no lack of scoring chances.

Braveheart 1st X1 5, Millwey Rise 1st X1 0 Millwey Rise were given an early indication of the task in front of them when after breaking quickly from defence the home side came within a whisker of opening the scoring. Rise gathered themselves together and a Braveheart defender was forced to turn a goal bound shot away for a corner. But just eight minutes into the game they fell behind when a quick counter ended with the ball being firmly struck into the Rise net. Once more gathering themselves Millwey went on the attack but again came undone when they were twice caught in possession and suffered the consequences to go two down. Bravehearts were dictating large parts of the game forcing Rise onto the back foot and conceding corners and free kicks in the process. Young Owen Enticott sustained an injury and was replaced by another youngster, Joe Osborne. Towards the end of the half Millwey came close on several occasions with efforts from Osborne and Shayne Featherstone. An Alex Rockett free kick on the edge of the home side's penalty area flew inches over the bar and a long range effort from Nathan Womersley was equally as close. The second period began with a real blow for Rise when a sliced kick by a defender beat keeper Brett Garner for an own goal putting Bravehearts three goals up. This certainly spurred them on and the Rise goal came under constant attack and it was obvious more goals were in the offing. The final two goals came about when Millwey defenders were caught in possession and paid the price. Shayne Featherstone gave way to Ben Webb for the final quarter but minutes later, with no more subs available, Sam Turner was forced off with an ankle injury and Millwey played out the remainder of the game with ten men. Although Rise never gave up they were under constant pressure from a well organised Braveheart team. Nathan Hoole was definitely Millwey's man-of-the-match in defence and joining with the attack he covered every inch of the pitch. Zak Meaker and Nathan Womersley never ceased in their effort to drive Rise forward. Next week's game at Cranbrook will again test Millwey's ability to survive against formidable opponents (kick-off 2-15pm).
Axminster Town return to South West Peninsular League football tomorrow with a home fixture against Torpoint who sit in second place in the Premier division (kick-off 3pm).
The Tigers were last in action on January 3 when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Liskeard in the Walter Parsons Cup.

East Coker Under 13s 1 This was a great result against third placed Coker keeping Axminster Town Under 13s at the top of the league. The Tigers started well on a slippery muddy pitch and took the lead when an excellent cross from wide caused mayhem in the box. After a few blocked shots the ball fell to Theo Dibling who made no mistake to slot home. After taking the lead Axe hit a rocky patch with Coker pressurising the defence resulting in a well taken goal to level the scores at 1-1. But Tigers once again showed their fighting spirit and before half time it was another great cross put in to Flynn Hartford whose shot was superbly saved by the visiting keeper. Fin Jenkin was on hand to smash home the rebound on the second attempt to make it 2-1 at half time. Axe brought on all four subs after the break to give all members of the squad some game time. The Tigers battled for every ball but with both teams creating a few chances the score stayed at 2-1 until the sharp, skilful Flynn Hartford skipped past two players to pull the ball back for the on-rushing Theo Dibling to smash home his second. Some resilient defending and a good save from substitute keeper Ligy Al-Sedani kept Coker at bay for the remainder of the game. Manager Sam Dibling said it was a top effort from all the team and awarded the man-of-the-match award to captain Ollie Gabb for his defensive display and organisational skills.
UPLYME 1sts travelled to face Central 2nds in a six-pointer with the Exeter team one place and three points behind the Swallows in the Devon and Exeter Division Six.
Central 1sts had no game and there was a good crowd to cheer on the home team. However, they were silenced within two minutes when Cody Bowditch slid a pass down the wing for Ollie Alner who, from a tight angle outside the box, struck his shot first-time over the keeper and into the top corner for a super goal.

After the recent heavy rainfall the pitch was very heavy and the grass was a bit longer than it would be under normal conditions.

High riding Beer Albion looking to maintain their Premier challenge

Heavy rain and outbreaks of COVID washed out last weekend's Devon and Exeter League programme but with the weather improving local teams should be in action tomorrow (Saturday).
Fixture of the day in the Premier Division should be Beer Albion's home match against Lyme Regis.
Axminster Town Under 13s 7, Crewkerne Town Under 13s 0
The first game of 2022 for the young Tigers was the only one played in the league after some heavy rain during the week drenched the pitches .
