After last week's debacle this was a well earned result especially with several players missing, including Sam Dibling, against the Devon and Exeter Division Two East high-riders.

For Millwey this was a back- to-the-wall game, soaking up pressure and relying on counter attacks to pose any threats.

Ottery were first out of the blocks and their slick passing resulted in a succession of corners but these were well defended by Rise.

Any threat to the visitors came from both wings via Jack Farrant and Bradley Conway. Lone striker Jack Bennett continually posed problems for the Otter's defence and came close with a quickly taken strike which had the keeper scrambling to clear it. Ottery kept presssing but foundered on the solid Millwey back four and Nathan Hoole between the sticks.

The second period started with Rise being more positive especially down the wings. A mesmerising run and shot by Farrant and a couple of back post headers from Bennett put the visitors goal under threat before they began getting on top again.

Bradley Conway was replaced by Brooklyn Wilkins just prior to a slick Ottery attack which should have provided them with the lead but a poor finish saved Millwey from going behind.

Ottery continued pressing hard for a winner but the Millwey defence stood firm with brilliant last-ditch tackles and blocks by skipper Haydn Lewis and Alex Rockett.

Bennett was replaced by Wayne Jenkins up front but it was Millwey's wingmen who were a constant threat and this proved decisive when Brooklyn Wilkins was brought down in the penalty area as he weaved through the Otters' defence. Nathan Womersley stepped up to take the penalty and cooly sent the keeper the wrong way to net the winner.

Ryan King came on to replace Sam Turner as Ottery mounted atack after attack but were left frustrated by Millwey's heroic last ditch defending.

The captain's man-of-the-match was Jack Farrant. His dribbling ability was a constant thorn in Ottery's side. Sam Burke was industrious as always but this was an all round, hard fought team effort.

This coming Saturday (May 1st) the visitors to Cloakham are Pinhoe 1st X1 (kick-off 3pm).
