Gardeners across the heart of Devon have made a vital difference to local end-of-life care by supporting Hospiscare's Open Gardens scheme.

During 2022, 41 gardens opened to raise funds for Hospiscare, the local hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Through the hospice's Exeter-based ward and its services in the community, Hospiscare cares for more than 2,500 patients and their families every year, and relies upon the support of its community to generate 82% of the funds needed to provide this care at no cost to those in need.

Thanks to the incredible support of the community, this year's Open Gardens have raised a whopping £41,568.31 for local end-of-life care.

Highlights for 2022 have included a classic car and motorbike show at Beacon Downe, Exeter, and one acre of hidden green beauty at Prospect House in Axminster – a garden that has previously been featured on 'Gardener's World'.

This year's event would not have been possible without Otter Garden Centres, who sponsored the Open Gardens campaign.

Laura Robertson, fundraising projects manager for Hospiscare, said: "From all of us here at Hospiscare, we are so grateful to our wonderful gardeners who continue to go above and beyond for our hospice every year.

"After a difficult few years, it has been lovely to see so many people attending the Open Gardens and enjoying these beautiful green spaces whilst supporting our local charity.

"To anyone with a passion for the outdoors, we are looking for gardeners to join us for 2023. From city gardens and allotments to country cottage gardens, everyone is welcome to join next year's Open Gardens and showcase their flora and fauna to raise vital funds for Hospiscare."
