Axminster's Flamingo Pool, which had a difficult start to the year having to close for several weeks for emergency structural repairs, has got its jubilee fundraising appeal well underway, marking its 25th anniversary.

The pool is hoping to raise £250,000 to secure the future of the facility, through the installation of renewable and sustainable energy sources and improvements so that the pool can be run efficiently, economically and with less pollution to the environment.

Unlike many other local swimming pools, the Flamingo is not funded by a local authority and is run as a charity, relying on customers and donations.

The Friends of the Flamingo Pool will be hosting an auction night at Axminster Guildhall on Friday, May 19, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

TV auctioneer Graham Barton will be overseeing proceedings, with some great lots on offer.

Organisers are still looking for more lots – do you have a few hours you could donate of gardening, plumbing, decorating? Or do you own a business and could donate an item, experience or a voucher?

Anyone wanting to make a donation should contact Kate Marshall by emailing [email protected]

In September, the Flamingo Pool is hoping to turn the town pink in celebration of its 25th anniversary.

The pool's Jubilee Committee is planning to supply local traders with pink bunting for their windows and is currently looking for pink fabric or old clothes, bedding etc which can be dropped at the swimming pool.
