Axminster has had a busy week with local organisations holding special events as part of the Cherry Fayre programme.

Events got underway last Thursday with the traditional Raising of the Glove ceremony on the Minster Green and have continued throughout the week.

Two local organisations to open doors over the weekend were Axminster Heritage Centre and the Axminster Freemasons.

The heritage centre offered free entry on Saturday and hosted a table-top sale among its historical displays, and a coffee morning in the meeting room upstairs.

Meanwhile, the Virtue & Honor Freemasons Lodge in South Street was opened to the public, with members keen to dispel the perception that the Freemasons were a secret society.

Members showed visitors around the hall, bar and kitchen facilities, which can ben booked for private functions, as well as the ornately-decorated lodge room itself where Masonic meetings are held.

The Masons now hope to hold more opens days and joint enterprises with local charities and other organisations, including the heritage centre.

Axminster Carnival also joined in the Cherry Fayre celebrations over the weekend, holding its first vehicle extravaganza on Axminster Showground.

Events will be rounded off tomorrow (Friday) with Axminster's Big Dinner, with residents and visitors invited along to Trinity Square and the Minster Green from 4pm to 9pm for live music, food producers and a street food market, family fun and games.

The finale will be held at the Community Waffle House, where Lyme Bay Radio's Lisa Galvani will be presenting her show with live music.
