AXMINSTER TOWN bounced back after losing their opening three matches with a much better performance at Crediton United where an 88th minute goal gave them a 3-2 victory to kick-start their South West Peninsular Premier East campaign.

Axminster travelled to Lords Meadow on the back of three defeats against Dartmouth (2-1), Elmore (3-1) and Torrington (4-0), but goals from Marcus Fanson and Josh Phillips, the last coming late in the game, secured three valuable points for the Tigers before a crowd of nearly 200.

UPLYME 1st took their good pre-season form into their opening game, winning 6 - 1 at home to a physical Merriott Reserves team who finished the game with nine men.

The Uplyme team handled a barrage of off-the-ball incidents with real professionalism as two Merriott players were red carded.

Uplyme line up before their final against Plymouth CS and Roborough

WATCHED by a crowd of more than 200, Uplyme and Lyme Regis crowned a glorious covid-affected season with a convincing nine-wicket victory over Plymouth CS & Roborough to win the Devon Mini-League Tier 5 final.

It was the biggest crowd ever seen for a cricket match at the King George V playing field and brought to a close a season in which Uplyme – formed in 1886 but which nearly went out of existence two years ago – have produced the most exciting cricket seen in the club's long history.

Work continues at a pace at the Davey Fort as the £140,000 development programme comes to an end

A FOUR-YEAR development project at the Davey Fort, the home of Lyme Regis Football Club, is drawing to close and should be completed before the Seasiders start their home fixtures.

Phase one of the project was in construction of a new £60,000 kitchen followed by the erection of a 63-seater stand on the southern side of the pitch.

Manager Josh Stunnell was looking for a better performance after losing 2-1 in their opening South West Peninsular Premier East game against Dartmouth but his young side were not up to the task, although it's early days yet.
