It was a close fight in good weather as Axe Cliff Golf Club Seniors competed for the Silver Salver Cup in teams of three where one score counts on holes 1-6; two on holes 7-12, leaving all three to count on the final six.

It's imperative, therefore, for the team to play and finish well. Octogenarian Gerry Turner, with his boyish smile,

and top guitarist Malcolm Glass and Rob Heard showed their class to win with an amazing 85 stableford points, but they were pushed all the way by last year's captain, Rob Grove, Peter Casey and Mick Swann who managed 82 points. Third place went to another strong team of Tony Snell, Bob Berry and Dave Sammons with a fine

77 points. Tony scored the only two of the day on the challenging seventh hole.

A special mention for Tony Strong who won the Scratch Cup for his tenth time, beating Gerry Binmore who fought well but found Tony in his best form.

Another busy week for our Ladies with two couples representing the club at Dawlish for the Warren Crocus, a County Foursomes, and six others playing Lyme Regis in a friendly. Both groups fought well but found the inclement conditions too difficult.

In better conditions on Wednesday, at home, they showed their class with some good scores in

the annual Vets Bowl. Stella Thompson, our venerable county champion, continued to shine, taking first place with a net 77 medal round, chased all the way by Sandra Walker with a 79. Last year's captain, Barbara Cummings, claimed the final podium spot with 81. Jo Hopgood, over the two rounds of the putting contest, won with a stead 61 putts.
