Axe Cliff Golf Club held its presentation night with wives and partners at the Anchor Inn who looked after them well with a warm welcome and excellent cuisine.
Young Harvey Gibbons (back left with Dad, Richard beside him) handed his captaincy over to Brendon Isaac and wished him every success for 2023. Harvey had a great year as I am sure Brendon will as well.
The photo shows the many trophy winners of 2022 and good to see a Senior amongst them - Nigel Pritchard (third from the left in front row wearing a tie!) with one trophy. On his left is dab Mark Hubbard with three trophies. I don't know for sure but would like to think the guy with the red trousers in the front may well be Brendon- apologies if not but he is wearing a jacket just like Harvey.
I said a prayer at St Gregory's on Sunday, being the fourth Sunday of Epiphany, for both Harvey and Brendon . It must have worked for Harvey as he and Dad Richard won round six of The Winter League competition with a magnificent net 62.
It also worked for Richard, now old enough to join the Seniors, who was second in their Winter League, Round 5 with 40 points. Normally that would be enough to win but the winning score was 42 and went to club treasurer, Bill Polley last Friday celebrating receiving most of the Seniors' £10 membership fees for the new year. The weather for both days was brilliant and almost Spring-like and must have helped. Still a long way to go but, at present, Terry Atkins is leading the way closely followed by Mike Wickens.
I must mention new captain Steve Thompson, playing off a low 5.8 handicap, scoring three birdies which he has a good nose for believe me.
