Axe Cliff Ladies finished their friendly matches with a close win at home against Honiton 3 & 1 in good weather and in very good spirits - a nice way to end the season.
On Wednesday they enjoyed a Bowmaker competition in teams of three where the best
two count on each hole. Again, all games were close with Jill Wellington, Karin Cox andJo Donmall taking the spoils with a par 72 points.
The Seniors had a great turnout for the popular Albert Skinner Shield last Friday. This trophy was presented to the club in memory of Albert who always wore something red when he played so that tradition is still carried on as you can see from the photo.
I like captain John Hanna's red Scottish beret but is Mick Swann, in the front, wearing shorts? Somebody should tell him the temperature has now dropped to single figures.
None in the picture got to take the trophy home as that honour went to Bill Dearling with a magnificent 40 points, but he had to fight all the way with three players on 39 points apiece.
I don't know for sure but I will give odds that old rrooner Phil Christmas took second spot as he got 23 points on the back nine with a blob. Tony Snell and Barnard Hanson had the other two.
John organised his last raffle of the year before the game with support of his wife and Barba Cummings. They managed to sell £310 of tickets to support John's chosen Charity, FORCE. He hopes to present them with a cheque after our competition on December 17, the proceeds of all his fund raising throughout the year which will be sizeable.
My wife and I enjoyed a delightful carvery at the club on Sunday with our son James, which was well attended again. Don't forget to book yours to avoid disappointment. "
