Sam Turner also made a welcome return having recovered from the injury that plagued him for the best part of last year.

Devon & Exeter League fixtures

The Devon & Exeter League have announced that the first games of the season will be held on Saturday, September 19th with a 3 pm kick-off.

In the Premier East Division three games will start the season: Beer Albion v Feniton 1sts, Dawlish United 1sts v Sidmouth Town 2nds (to be played on Dawlish Leisure Centre main pitch, Upottery 1sts v Kentisbeare 1sts.

The first game back for Seaton Ladies was always going to be a tough one, especially as they were hosting Ottery Ladies, a team in the higher division.

The first half was evenly matched with Ottery winning a penalty which was calmly converted, putting the score at 1-0. That's how the score stayed until half time giving both managers the chance to speak to the teams.

LYME Regis 1st team continued their pre-season friendlies on Friday with a game against a club which plays at a higher standard.

Lyme started very brightly against the Chard Town 1st team playing up the slope in the first half but fell behind against the run of play in the 25th minute when a free kick was headed past Rob Harp from the penalty spot.

THERE have been many feisty encounters between neighbours Lyme Regis and Uplyme  - but last night's pre-season encounter for the Bass Bottle was up there among the most competitive.

Last season Uplyme, fielding the youngest team in the Perry Street League, struggled in Division One and it was a great credit to manager Stu Wooster for creating such a good team spirit and giving so many their first taste of men's football.

The Millwey Rise team in 1968

At Millwey Rise FC 's AGM prior to the 1967-68 season, secretary Dick Sturch reported that "although neither teams performance had been consistent during the previous season, it proved very successful in many other ways".

The team spirit shown by both teams never wavered and on behalf of the committee I thanked the players for their unfailing support throughout. The 1st X1 started the campaign well but unfortunately the pace proved too great and they fell away in the final games.

UPLYME continued their pre-season programme of friendlies, this time against a very young and capable Perry Street Premier team Hawkchurch, running out 4-1 winners.

Uplyme went behind to a simple goal after a very bright start, but it's testament to this squad that they bounced back through Ben Prosser and then took the lead through an Oli Alner debut goal at the back post from an excellent Prosser free-kick.

Lyme Regis 1st team produced a simply breathtaking performance against a team two divisions higher to earn a thoroughly deserved 5-0 victory on Saturday – and will feel they may have had even more.

Lyme were sharper from the moment the game kicked off and raced into a 4-0 lead by half time.

Farway United made history and lifted the Devon Intermediate Cup for the first time in their history.

In the first final to be held on the newly laid Coach Road pitch at Newton Abbot, Farway recovered from giving away a 2-0 interval lead to win 5-4 on penalties. Bishop Blaize were worthy finalists but a single penalty miss cost them dearly.
