All eyes were on the Reserves, as Uplyme Firsts had no game last Saturday.

They welcomed Combe St Nicholas A, a team full of experienced players who proved an excellent opponent in very tricky conditions. However, the great form of the Uplyme youngsters continued as they ran out worthy 3 - 0 winners.

The deadlock was broken in the first half from a Freddie Andrews' free kick that was deflected past the excellent Combe keeper.

This, mid-way through the first half, proved the catalyst for some excellent possession football from Uplyme. The second goal came 10 minutes later, after great work down the left from Marcus Symonds. He found Andrews on the overlap, who centred a good ball which fell to Harry Robson outside the box. He stroked it home first-time to send Uplyme into half time two up.

Second half - and uphill - Uplyme tried to keep the ball and utilise the better conditions out wide. Combe stepped up their attacks, but found 17-year-old Mikey Sayers in blistering form in goal. He held onto everything and gave his defence great confidence.

The third goal came after good work through the midfield and George Symonds swept home to seal the points. There was still time for chances at both ends, but the final score remained 3 - 0.

Manager Steve Gillan was proud of the young team, saying:"Again, we faced a team older, a little wiser in experience and looking to impose themselves on our team.

"Fair play to Combe who played some excellent football in tough conditions.

"We've come so far and no-one epitomises that progression more than Mikey in goal. Outstanding, today."
