UPLYME 1sts faced another big test as they travelled to the home of Kenn Valley, unbeaten so far in the Division Six of the Devon and Exeter League.

It was a very physical game from the start and Kenn Valley's older team certainly made their tackles count.

Uplyme matched them for 40 minutess until a swift attack led to the ball breaking in the box and was dispatched beyond the dive of stand-in keeper James Beddows.

The half-time talk was positive, however, and soon after the break Jonny Day swept in a neat volley to level the scores.

Uplyme took control all over the pitch and Fin Mclean crossed a great ball for Day head in his second goal at the far post.

The Swallows took the lead 10 minutes later, Mclean grabbing the third – his fifth of a great season – after some excellent team passing as Uplyme took control.

Kenn Valley took the physicality up a notch and the yellow cards were flying and at least two seemed very lenient and could easily have been red. A typical challenge on Jonny Day left him with a broken nose and a spell in Accident & Emergency.

Valley grabbed a goal back but Uplyme were resolute until the end.

Joint Managers Pete Blandamer and Steve Gillan commented: "A brilliant team performance that relied on every player stepping up against his opponent.

"Our goals were brilliant and we simply refused to be bullied into submission against a team stacked with experience and quality. Jonny Day reflected this bravery and quality on the ball and was a worthy man-of-the match. Scholesy – our stand-in keeper – was brilliant too.

"We just hope we can acquire a goalkeeper in the near future, as this team can go from strength to strength if we secure a quality option."

This victory saw Uplyme move into second place in Division Six.
