Millwey Rise 1st X1 4, Teign Valley 1st X1 3

This was a fiercely fought game with little quarter given by either side and kept the referee busy throughout.

Teign were one goal up in the very first minute when poor defensive marking allowed the forward a relatively easy tap in.

As the game progressed chance s were created and missed by both sides before Dave Bridges had a fierce shot saved but followed this up five minutes later to fire the ball into the visitors net to equalise.

Several free-kick were given as both sides competed with little quarter given. Sam Turner had to give way through injury and was replaced by Theo Souttar-Stone. Bridges was then yellow carded just before a corner to Rise, taken by Owen Enticott, found the head of Jack Bennett to give Millwey the lead 2-1 at the break.

Milley should have scored immediately from the restart after a melee in the Teign's goalmouth gave several opportunities for the slightest toe-poke to get the ball over the line.

Soon after Souttar-Stone, breaking on the right, saw his firmly struck shot fly over the bar. A great pass from Bennett saw Thurlow ready to pounce but the keeper literally took the ball off his toe to prevent a certain goal.

Rise then conceded a goal 15 minutes into the half when they failed to clear the ball. Almost immediately they attacked again forcing the visitors to concede a corner from which Bennett's firm header crashed off the crossbar. This was followed by what will possibly be, the best goal of the Season as Bennett somehow got his foot to a cross which had virtually passed him to guide the ball past the stationery keeper.

The game flowed back and forward amidst free-kicks and yellow cards but it was the visitors who again drew level from a header after a breakaway on the right.

Millwey's final and winning goal came from Souttar-Stone who broke from the right and volleyed the ball home.

In the final minutes the referee had to deal with one or two flare-ups which he dealt with efficiently and sensibly as he had done throughout the match. The final opportunity to increase the Rise lead fell to Brett Garner who saw his close range shot blocked on the line.

For Millwey everyone contributed to the win with Alex Rockett and Owen Enticott very prominent, but manager Shane Featherstone gave man-of-the Match to Dave Bridges for his unceasing effort throughout the game.
