Here's a picture of the Axminster Town team in the mid-fifties which appeared in Pulman's Weekly News.

Football enthusiasts will notice some well known names. Bernard Hiscox and Sam Branker played for Millwey Rise in the inaugural season. I went to Colyton Grammar School with Tony Rockett. Cecil "Sandy" Sansom was the linesman but went on to referee and serving Axminster FC for many years as chairman when the club was based at the iconic Sector Lane.

This brings back many names and memories of my younger days when we used to climb over the hedge at Sector Lane to watch them.

I remember saying (I was 12-13 years old) "Well saved Bernard" to which he replied. "My name's Mr. Hiscox to you Dick Sturch" I was so proud he knew my name. I lived on that for ages.
