AFTER their 10-0 thumping of Pinhoe in Devon & Exeter League Division Two East the previous week, Axminster Reserves were hoping for another convincing victory.
But neighbours Millwey Rise had other ideas and contributed in no small measure before a boisterous crowd at Tiger Way which included many players from seasons past renewing old rivalries.
The Tigers controlled matters throughout but Millwey Rise always stayed in it which made it a more exciting game to watch.
It was a typical derby game with Axe running out 2-1 winners in the end. Both goals were scored by Jamie Girton.
Axminster manager Dan Prettijohn was disappointed that his side wasted so much ball, which he intends to iron out at training.
After the game he told Nub News Sport: "A win's a win but I was hoping for more momentum going into next Saturday's big game against Ottery St Mary 2nds."
Prettijohn named Ryan Andrews as his man-of-the-match. The club also sent their best wishes to Millwey's Leigh Beer who suffered a serious leg injury.
With two games under their belt and 12 goals in the bag, Axminter Reserves, favourites to win the Division Two East Division, top the table on goal average ahead on their main rivals Ottery.
The match was sponsored by Meyers estate agents.
