East Devon cricketers will be competing this summer in the very first local T20 tournament, commencing in June.

With recreational sport still in lockdown, it is not yet known whether the Devon Cricket League will be operating a full programme or tiered mini-leagues as with last season.

Nub News cricket awards

THREE consecutive centuries by Uplyme & Lyme Regis all-rounder Tyler Wellman, a feat unknown in local recreational cricketing circles, clinched the Nub News Sport top ten batting award.

Tyler topped the top ten batting list with a 353 runs scored during the Devon mini-league games and wins £125 for his club and a trophy to mark his achievement.

Uplyme line up before their final against Plymouth CS and Roborough

WATCHED by a crowd of more than 200, Uplyme and Lyme Regis crowned a glorious covid-affected season with a convincing nine-wicket victory over Plymouth CS & Roborough to win the Devon Mini-League Tier 5 final.

It was the biggest crowd ever seen for a cricket match at the King George V playing field and brought to a close a season in which Uplyme – formed in 1886 but which nearly went out of existence two years ago – have produced the most exciting cricket seen in the club's long history.

THIS has certainly been a season to remember for Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club and after their final league match on Saturday they are hoping to have something to really celebrate.

A big crowd is expected at the King George V playing field in the afternoon when Uplyme meeting Plymouth Civil Service in one of the Devon Cricket Mini-Leagues finals  having gone unbeaten in the six matches that got them to the play-offs.
