Seaton Cricket Club's long-serving captain Ben Morgan has stepped down from the captaincy after holding the position for 11 years.

Morgan was just 21 when he succeeded Mike Wheeler as skipper of Seaton 1st XI at the start of the 2011 season.

During his tenure he has led the club through three promotions, a relegation, and two Corinthian Cup final wins..

Speaking to the Devon League's website, Morgan, 32, said: "When I look back on my time as captain in years to come I think the achievement I will be proudest of if keeping us in the A Division in 2021.

"It was our first proper season back at that level because Covid meant no normal league cricket the year before and we started out reasonably well.

"In the second half of the season we were without two or three of our better players most of the time, but the guys who stepped in gave it everything and we stayed up."

Morgan says he has no intention of retiring as a player, but feels "the time is right" to hand over to someone else.

He said: "I have a five and a six year old now and would like to spend a bit more time with them and less on cricket business.

"It has been a terrific experience captaining Seaton and I would like to thank everyone – players, committeemen, club members – for their help and support. But the time is right for someone else to have a go now."

Joe Berry will be taking over the 1st X1 captaincy for the summer ahead in the A Division.
