Plans to make Axminster skatepark a 'community hub' as second phase of facility is built
Construction of the second phase of Axminster skatepark is now underway with hopes it will be finished in four week' time.
It comes following completion of the first phase of the new facility at Cloakham Lawn in June.
The managing committee say they want the facility to be more than just a skatepark, but a community hub.
It will be run as a charity and will eventually have to be financially independent, paying for insurance, waste collection and maintenance.
The team are currently looking for funding to install fencing that could feature advertising boards, seating areas with one specifically for parents and young children, a catering pitch, art wall and events area.
They are also developing a new service called 'ASK', with a QR code to be displayed at the skatepark which young people will be able to scan for help and advice. The service will ask questions about the issue and then direct users to helpful websites, helping them with things such as mental health.
