As the nights draw in Saturday evenings can only mean one thing – carnival season is upon us in East Devon!

Axminster's turn is from September 11 to 18 culminating in the grand carnival procession on the evening of Saturday, September 17.

Not having had a carnival for the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers are hoping to make up for it with an extra special carnival week.

Events taking place throughout the week include a Spot the Misplaced Article competition in participating shop windows, organised by Karen Hussey.

Entry forms are now available from the library, The Sweet Shop or Potters. Thank you, as always, goes to Karen Hussey for her organisation.

Herberts Funfair will be taking up residence in Lyme Street car park – keep an eye out for posters for opening times.

A coffee and cake morning will be held in the Church Rooms and on the Minster Green on Thursday, September 15 from 8am until 12noon.

Friday, September 16 sees the carnival cash prize bingo organised and held at Axminster Football Club in Chard Road. Doors open at 7pm, eyes down at 8pm.

The main event will be the grand carnival procession at 8pm on Saturday, September 17. Roads around the town centre will be closed for a few hours to allow the illuminated floats and walking entries to pass through the streets.
