Axminster-based charity Partners for Progress will be raising funds at an open garden event at Abbey Farm in Montacute, Somerset, next month.

Elizabeth and Alisdair McFarlane will be opening their beautiful garden for this charity event on Sunday, June 11, to raise money for education and community development projects in Nepal.

Visitors will be able to explore two and half acres of mainly walled gardens on a sloping site that provides the glorious historical setting for a Cluniac Medieval Priory gatehouse.

An old walnut, mulberry and monkey puzzle add stature while interesting planting is to be found from the herbaceous borders through the terraces to gravel borders, a white garden, an arboretum and the kitchen and herb garden.

Interesting plants include roses, shrubs, grasses and clematis while the pond host frogs, newts and dragonflies.

As well as access to the beautiful garden, there will be an art exhibition by Robert Innes, a plein-air landscape painter who trained at the Leith School of Art and The Glasgow School of Art.

Tea, homemade cakes and Pimm's will be on sale alongside Nepali jewellery and pashminas.

The event will be held from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, June 11 at Abbey Farm, Montacute, Somerset (TA15 6UA), raising funds for the Axminster charity Partners for Progress, which supports the sustainable development of communities and promotes education to benefit individuals and groups internationally.

Admission will cost £8 and is free for accompanied children (cash only). Free parking is available, no dogs allowed.
