Axminster Care Service has welcomed former mayor Thelma Collier as a new trustee.

Thelma, born and bred in East Devon, has lived in Axminster for more than 46 years.

Serving as town councillor for over 19 years, Thelma was the Mayor of Axminster between 2005 and 2007. Having now retired as compliance manager for a local law firm, Thelma joins the Axminstr Care Service (ACS) team and brings with her much accumulated knowledge of the town and its people to the charity.

Axminster Care Service is well known for its transport service which supports those who are unable to get to their medical appointments on their own. It is also known for its support for those facing times of crisis, and in a variety of ways.

With the winter months now fast approaching, ACS is concerned about the effects of the increase in cost of living upon the more vulnerable it our community, and would encourage anyone who is experiencing difficulties to contact them for support or signposting to more appropriate organisations.

The ACS telephone line is open from 9.30am to 10.30am Monday to Friday, or a message can be left on our answer machine for call back the following day. Alternatively, you can email [email protected]

There are currently a number of volunteering opportunities available with ACS. If anyone has some spare time and would like to give something back please get in touch.
