Axminster charity Nourish wins £10,000 with Tesco's golden token

Axminster charity Nourish, which provides food for vulnerable residents, has been named the lucky winner of one of Tesco's £10,000 'Golden Grants'.

Tesco pledged to give £100million more to community organisations across the country through its Community Grants scheme.

This usually sees customers vote for their preferred charities and organisations in store using blue tokens, but gold tokens were made available in 100 Tesco stores over the weekend to give participating organisations an incredible £10,000 boost.

Tesco in Axminster was chosen to take part in the golden token scheme after community champion Emma Cole won an award for her work supporting residents and organisations in Axminster.

A lucky dip was held in store on Saturday, with one customer picking out the golden token, allowing them to choose one of the current three organisations selected for Community Grants to receive the £10,000 prize.

Nourish was chosen as the lucky winner and volunteers collected their prize in store this week.

Karen Taylor, founder of Nourish, said she was "overwhelmed" by the grant and expressed her thanks to Tesco and the shopper who selected Nourish as the winner.

She said they had not yet decided how best to spend the money, but it would be most useful in continuing to support the Axminster community amid the cost of living crisis.

Nourish provides free meals for those in need in the Axminster area, as well as holding regular community lunches in Axminster Guildhall. You can find out more on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/NourishAxminster
