Mayor's robes fixed at Axminster Repair Cafe
The Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow, has given her backing to Axminster Repair Café, using the service for repairs to her civic robes.
Cllr Farrow popped into the Repair Café at Axminster Guildhall over the weekend, where voluntary seamstresses Sue and Paula repaired the stitching on her recognisable red robes.
Having first been launched in 2009, the global Repair Café movement has taken the world by storm, more recently taking off in the UK thanks to the success of television show 'The Repair Shop'.
The sustainable repair and re-use ethos has proved a hit in Axminster, with the Repair Café growing in popularity each month.
Residents are encouraged to bring along their electrical and mechanical, household or clothing items for repair by a team of knowledgable volunteers, who all share a passion for the 'do it yourself' movement.
The volunteers have skills in fixing up electrical and mechanical items, sewing, glass, ceramics, jewellery and leather repair.
There are no set charges – those bringing in items for repair and just asked to make a donation and do not need an appointment.
The cafe also has a great social aspect, as all are welcome to come along and enjoy chatting to others over free hot drinks, cakes and bacon rolls.
The monthly sessions will be held from 10am to 1pm at Axminster Guildhall on the following dates: July 2, September 3, October 1, November 5 and December 3.
You can find out more details on the Axminster Repair Cafe Facebook page.
