Local Elections 2023: Results are in for Yarty and Newbridges

Election results for the Yarty and Newbridges wards of East Devon District Council – covering villages surrounding Axminster – have been announced.

In Newbridges, which includes Dalwood, Kilmington and Musbury, Conservative councillor Iain Chubb held on to his seat with 423 votes.

He beat competition from Liberal Democrat Veronica Dower with 335 votes and Labour candidate Clara Douglas with 93.

A total of 855 ballot papers were issued out of an electorate of 2,082, with four ballot papers rejected, equating to a turnout of 41 per cent.

In the Yarty ward, which covers Hawkchurch, Chardstock and Membury, the Liberal Democrats won a seat with Duncan Mackinder topping the poll with 442 votes.

Other candidates were Conservative Richard Norman with 328 and Green Party candidate Duncan Staddon with 75.

Yarty's former independent councillor Paul Hayward instead stood for election in the Axminster ward and won alongside two other independent candidates.
