"It's not just exercise, it's very social. People who are swimming here several times a week all know each other, and they sit and have a chat and people make friends.

"Swimming is also very good exercise for anybody with aches and pains."

Julie said: "The swim school for children is really popular - again they've got the special January offer - and that includes a free swimming lesson.

"They're normally six children to a class. The swim school membership also includes unlimited activities, and junior sports up at Sidmouth Leisure Centre."

"The new Get Active memberships for kids have just got cheaper, and that's for any children under 16 who don't want swimming lessons but can still use the pool, as well as the gym, and outdoor facilities.

"A swim is £3, the gym is £4.50, sports are around £3-6. If you did one swim, one gym and a couple sessions of table tennis a month you'd be saving 33% with this membership.

"You can also train in the gym with your son or daughter – any 11-15-year-old can use the gym with a responsible adult over the age of 18 at any time."
