Axminster Town Council is increasing its council tax precept by five per cent in the coming financial year.

The precept is the portion of the total council tax bill set by the town council. Other authorities including the district, county, police and fire services also set their own tax precepts.

Axminster Town Council's precept will bring in a total income of £263,161 in the 2022-23 financial year, against a predicted expenditure of £342,666.

The five per cent increase will be shared by a recent increase in the number of households in Axminster.

It means the average Band D property will pay £93.38 to Axminster Town Council during the year, an increase of £3.26 or less than one pence a day.

The town council did not increase its precept last year and says it has a number of ambitious projects it hopes to achieve in the next financial year.
