The headteacher of The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis has raised more than £1,700 for Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support by arranging a training afternoon at the British Bobsleigh Launch Centre at Bath University.

Dan Watts arranged the bobsleigh event to raise vital funds for the local cancer support charity, with 12 people launching down the track repeatedly, learning how to jump into the moving sled as quickly as possible.

Mr Watts, who previously completed a skydive for the charity, donned the famous Jamaican team colours for the day, as featured in the film 'Cool Runnings'.

He said: "We wanted to have a fun day and raise money to support the charity. We have had a wonderful day, worked hard pushing the bobsleigh and managed to raise money to support an amazing charity.

"I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the day a success".

Kelsey Lawrence, the fundraising chair of the charity, was one of the 12 taking part on the day.

She said: "It is important that we continue to raise funds to keep the activities of the charity going. I have really enjoyed today and thank Mr Watts for arranging the event and for his work with our charity."

"We are pleased that Mr Watts continues to be an ambassador for Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support and raise funds for us. We look forward to further events with him."

Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support aims to provide support for anyone living with and beyond cancer in our community, including relatives and carers. It provides information, support services and recently held a successful 'Let's Talk about Cancer' talk.

If anyone wishes to contribute to the fundraising, they can still sponsor Mr Watts at https://localgiving.org/fundraising/Watts/

Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support exists to provide help and support to anyone affected by any cancer. If anyone wants to access support or contribute directly, details of services offered and how to contact the charity are on its website www.axminsterandlymecancersupport.co.uk
