After heavy overnight rain as storm Bella swept across the South West, motorists have been warned that flooding is possible across the River Axe area.

Storm Bella is expected to bring further heavy showers this evening and a band of heavy frontal rain overnight. This will cause rivers in the area to rise rapidly.

The levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to rivers in the early hours. Very strong winds are also forecast which may cause trees to fall bringing additional risk of flooding.

A statement issued from Axminster Fire Station said: "We expect the rivers to remain high throughout Sunday and there is the possibility for official flood warnings to be issued. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

"We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages in this location. This message will be updated on Sunday evening or earlier if the situation changes.

"Please only travel if it is absolutely essential in the weather we are currently having, and never enter fast flowing water or flood water where you are unsure of the level in your vehicle."
