Axe Valley Academy in Axminster will be opening its doors this week to welcome potential students, parents and the community.

Headteacher Laura Jenkins said she, staff and students are all looking forward to welcoming the public to their "beautiful school site".

She commented: "The students have been really proactive and keen in planning tours and activities for the open day. They are really proud to show off their school.

"Deciding where your child goes to secondary school is a really huge decision so we do advise coming to look around first, it's a joyful community here.

"We want to take the trepidation out of moving to secondary school. This is a really important day for us and we have been working towards it for weeks."

Axe Valley has already seen a massive intake of Year 7 students this year who have settled in quickly, many of them making the most of the school's wide variety of clubs and extra curricular activities – covering everything from sports to music to chess club!

They are also looking forward to lots of school trips now that Covid restrictions have been eased, particularly in performing arts.

The school enjoyed an excellent set of GCSE results at the end of the last school year, with Ms Jenkins saying that students performed really well considering the disruption suffered over the past two years.

Last year's open day was extremely popular with queues out the door, so those wanting to attend this week's event on Thursday, September 22 are advised to book tours.

Set tours are scheduled for 9.30am or 11.30am, and between 6pm and 8pm, but if you require an afternoon visit or to come at any other time, call 01297 32146 or email [email protected]

The event will also include presentations from Ms Jenkins and Year 7 leader Rupert Carr, and plenty of activities across all departments.
