Axminster residents will soon be able to enjoy delicious waffles on The Minster Green.

The town's popular Community Waffle House has announced that they intend to reopen from lockdown as from July 15.

Opened last April as a non-profit making community interest company, the Waffle House has been a huge success with every penny made going to help the needy of Axminster, especially the isolated and lonely.

The project is being run by three directors - Matt Smith, Tim and Sophie Mclachlan - and a team of around 20 helpers.

They have announced that as from July 15, they will be serving the famous Belgian dessert every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 2pm - 7pm for takeaway only.

The Waffle House has been given permission for their takeaway customers to sit at picnic benches on The Minster Green, directly opposite their West Street premises.

The waffles are hand-baked and freshly made with a wide range of fresh toppings, together with coffee, juices, milkshakes and cakes.

When the project was announced last year, Matt Smith was quoted as saying: "We are just a group of youngish people that live in Axminster and are really keen to see our community thrive - so we would love to hear from people if they have a passion for the community of Axminster and have any ideas or comments for how this space could be used."
