Axminster's Minster Green is the only place in the town centre where shoppers and visitors can sit in peace and quiet.
It is also the location for the town's war memorial and sometimes plays host to the occasional fundraising event under the shadow of Axminster's much admired parish church.
The green also provides a reminder of some of Axminster's past citizens who have had seats erected in their memory and the staging of important events.
Among these are the seat donated by Axminster Carnival to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 which has been recently refurbished.
Carnival president John Jeffery BEM said they removed the seat every two to three years to bee rubbed down and revarnished so it always looked in a pristine state.
Also on The Minster are three seats donated by Friends of Axminster and the Royal British Legion in 2011 and memorial seats to former mayor David Hallett who was a co-founder of the Axminster Care Service and former police sergeant Les Knight who did much for Axminster especially in his retirement years.
Axminster Women's Institute also donated a seat in 1997.
