Axminster has been shocked by the sudden death of town mayor Anni Young.

Cllr Young, who was serving her second term as the town's First Citizen, died in her sleep overnight.

Mrs Young was elected as a town council in 2005 after moving to Axminster from London with her husband, Matt.

As well as serving as mayor, she was also venue manager at the council-owned Guildhall and worked at Tesco.

One of Cllr Young's last duties as mayor was to officially open the new Community Waffle House in Trinity House earlier this month.

The deputy mayor, Cllr Jill Farrow, is expected to take over as chairman of Axminster Town Council.
