Sports in Axminster

DEVON and Exeter Division Six leaders Okehampton came to Venlake on Saturday looking to hold onto their sizeable advantage at the top.  However, the Uplyme team were set on proving last week's disappointing defeat to Exeter Uni was a blip.

Without influential player Cody Bowditch and skipper Wes Holmes, it seemed a tough task, but the team set about their usual brand of quick football with gusto.

Seasiders back to winning form

AFTER a few indifferent results Lyme Regis 1st team were determined to get back to winning ways when Sidmouth Town 2nds visited the Davey Fort on Saturday.

Against the young and inexperienced Vikings, it turned out to be the right fixture to see the Seasiders rediscover some form and they coasted to a 5-1 defeat.

Perry Street League Division Three

Uplyme Reserves 2,  Farway United 2nds 0 AFTER no game last week Uplyme hosted Farway United and the Swallows looked well up for it before kick-off. From the kick-off, the Swallows pressed Farway, keeping them mostly in there own half. A great cross from the left-hand side of the pitch  found Brad Bowditch who chested it down for his left footed shot to find the back of the net to make open the scoring. Within a few minutes another great through ball split the Farway defence. Bowditch chased through beating defenders to slot the ball into the back of the net again only to be denied by an offside. The score remained 1-0 at the interval but Uplyme started the second half putting pressure on the visitors  with some hard tackles from both teams going in.   With about 15 minutes left of the game a great shot from Tyler Wheeler was cleared off the goal line only to hit upright and come back out. Uplyme kept pressing forward winning a corner with just a few minutes left to play. Bowditch stepped up to take the corner and put it straight into the back of the net, making it 2-0 at final whistle. This was another outstanding, solid team performance with Aiden Hulbert at right-back and midfielders Connor Newton and Will Osbourne dominating. Man-of-the match went to Will Osbourne.
