What a time for the Ladies' section at Axe Cliff Golf Club. They may be small but they are certainly great! None greater than Stella Thompson. She was only just eligible by a few days to play in the prestigious Devon Ladies' Venerable Vets Championships held at Honiton recently

where 100 ladies played their hearts out. Stella, I am delighted and proud to say , won and you can see her excitement in our photo by Margaret Kenchington. A magnificient trophy to put in her trophy cabinet.

She didn't know the result for some while after getting home when she was informed in the evening and has been on cloud nine ever since. In the same event, Sandra Walker also won her division so what a day for Axe Cliff.

Last Wednesday saw nine lady members inviting two guests to join them in a team event where the best two scores counted. It was dry with a cool wind and enjoyed by Margaret Kenchington and her guests from Hampshire, who won the Invitation with a very good 79 points, closely followed by Karin Cox and her friends from Dorset and Devon with 77 points.

The best back nine was won by Caroline Bond and ladies from Devon and best front nine went to Jo Hopgood with her ladies from Dorset. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and a wonderful buffet afterwards in the clubhouse created a lovely atmosphere.

The good news continues with the Section winning their quarter final last Friday against Sidmouth at Crediton and now play the semi-final of the Shelagh Creasey competition at Teign Valley on September 16.

Not such an exciting time for our Seniors but a good turn out for the Harris Tankard last Friday with some fine scoring going on, not least by Richard Bush, who is in great form and feeling ten years younger, winning with 40 points. Rob Heard, also playing well, took second spot with a good 39 points. Third and fourth went to countback on 37 points with Bill Polley given the final spot on the podium from Colin Hales. Well done to Richard in beating Bill Polley, who won last year. Bill now has to give the tankard to Richard with a pint of his choice in it.
