THE road to Wembley is a long and winding one, but Axminster Town's journey came to an abrupt halt on Saturday after a 1-0 defeat against the unbeaten Brixham AFC, who are unbeaten this season.
The Blues arrived at Tiger Way having won all seven games in the South West Peninsular Premier East and are among the favourites to win the title.

"YOU won't see a better opening goal or a better game at the Davey Fort this season". That was the view of one spectator after Lyme Regis clinched a crucial point in a 3-3 draw at home to Devon and Exeter Premier leaders Lapford.
After a difficult start to the season, caused by COVID-postponements and injuries, this was the first signs of the Lyme Regis of old, a great fighting spirit and playing for each other, after a couple indifferent displays.
Axminster Town continued their impressive start to the season with a 4-0 thumping of Crediton United in the South West Peninsular Premier Division East on Saturday.
The victory keeps the Tigers very much among the Premier front runners with just four points separating the top six sides.

Axminster Town Ladies welcomed Exeter City Development for their first home game of the season watched by a big crowd.
Axminster were eager to continue their winning start to the season after the previous week's league opening game against Bradninch FC which saw a hat-trick from new signing Poppy Cloke, a goal from captain on the day Louise Wyatt, two goals from long-time Tiger Maddie Carter and a goal each from new signings Flo Halkyard, Lorna Button, Lily Wheeler and Chelsea Petherbridge. An unbreakable defence saw Axminster win the game 9-0.
Axminster Under 13s started their season in style after a tough pre-season, having won four games and lost two against some strong opposition.
On Sunday the youngsters graced the "hallowed" turf on the main pitch at Tiger Way, which was in superb condition, and came out 17-0 winners against Bruton Under 13s.
Axminster Town Ladies are making history as the first football team from the club to make it to the FA Cup.
