Ilchester Under 12s 0, Axminster Under 12s 7

Axminster's first competitive match in the Yeovil and District League started well, passing the ball about with control and creating chances but the home keeper was in inspired form, keeping out a number of attempts from all angles.

Axe got the breakthrough half way through the first half with a long range rocket from Ruben Baluch. The second soon followed with a brilliant through-ball from Ollie Gabb allowing young Theo Dibling to race through to finish well passed a helpless keeper.

Going into the second half Axminster brought on the subs, adding more energy going forward and they found their finishing boots with Ruben Baluch getting another long-rang blockbuster.

Edd Sherman, from off the bench, got goal of the day with a 20-yard screamer right into the top corner playing from right back.

Theo Dibling finished things off, banging in a hat-trick and man-of-the-match for his tireless forward running and closing down. There was also an own goal.

It was a great team effort and team play by all the squad.

Axminster Under 14s 2,Whipton Youth 2-2

Points were shared in the first league match of the season. Axminster started brightly, passing the ball around and creating some good chances.

Josias Drew on the left wing was a thorn in Whipton's side right from the start; his intelligent play put them under pressure and eventually was rewarded with a debut goal for the Tigers .

Axe seemed in control but Whipton always looked like they could cause problems. Whipton's first goal was a gift, a mix-up between goalkeeper and centre-back saw the Whipton forward score into an open net to make it 1-1.

In the second half the Tigers were back in the lead through a well-taken goal from Max Churchill.

Playing into the wind made it hard for the youngsters and the pressure was beginning to tell. Mistakes started to creep in and it was from giving the ball away in midfield which the Whipton players took advantage, a quick ball over the defence led to both striker and centre-back chasing down with the striker coolly slotting home.

A disappointing result but a lot of positives with a good debut by Josias Drew and some excellent football played at times. A few uncharacteristic mistakes from the Tigers which no doubt the coaches will work on at training.
