Uplyme 1sts' unbeaten home run was finally ended by league leaders St Thomas, who came away with a 3 - 0 win.
The somewhat-flattering scoreline reflected a poor day in front of goal for Uplyme, with excellent chances being missed to pressure the visitors.
It was a clash of styles and the physical, route one approach of St Thomas led to three scrappy goals conceded by the Uplyme defence.
"It was a fixture to be endured rather than enjoyed," said the management team, "Their style clearly works as they're top and unbeaten. They have an excellent striker who they hit constantly with the long ball and one other big veteran up top that caused us problems.
"Their approach was summed up when we subbed off rtwo lads to save them from further fouls and their skipper - and manager - told his team they'd got rid of two pretty boys.
Good luck to them as they move up, next season."
This defeat leaves Upyjme in mid-table with just three games to play. On Saturday they ate at home (kick-off 3pm) to Alphington 2nds who are in fourth place in the table. Uplyme Reserves last game of the season is on Saturday, April 22, at home to Chard United A where a win for the Swallows will see them win the Perry Street League Division Three.
