The Perry Street Spring Series started with Uplyme 1sts facing a tough test at home to Division 1 team Pymore.

After a long layoff, the fitness and sharpness of players was an unknown, but a 3 – 1 win showed their form had continued from the cancelled season.

The young squad quickly slotted into a slick rhythm of two-touch passing and movement off the ball. Alex Jones got the scoring going with a super lob over the advancing keeper. It was Jones' only goal of the game, but he could have finished with four or five, had it not been for some great saves and some errant shooting.

Early in the second half, Pymore equalised from a huge defection which left young keeper Sayers no chance.

Uplyme continued to press and play their natural game, with Fin Mclean in midfield showing real class in with the Holmes' brothers, Daley and Wes. More chances fell to Jones and Daley, who produced a brilliant piece of skill on the edge of the box only to see his volley dip just over the bar.

Pymore then had a player sent off for his second bookable offence by the excellent referee Wayne Rideout.

With ten minutes left, the manager Steve Gillan made a brief appearance in place of the tireless Wes Holmes. The change prompted Harry Robson to move infield and the effect was immediate. He slipped past three players on a great diagonal run and finished coolly into the bottom corner.

The final goal came from Daley Holmes, who fully deserved it in what was a stand-out performance, after unselfish work from Jones.

A delighted Gillan praised the whole squad for returning so positively from where they left off.
