UPLYME 1sts overcame a tricky home game against a very competitive Budleigh Salterton and ran out 4–2 winners, even though they went behind twice in the game.

After Budleigh took the lead, Uplyme pushed on and a sharp turn and shot saw Oli Alner equaliser halfway through the first half.

Playing up the Venlake slope and into a sharp wind, the home team went into half time all square and satisfied to be in contention. However, Budleigh took the lead once again and keeper Todd Lowe made a great one-on-one save to keep Uplyme in touch, knowing they had much better football they could play.

Uplyme pushed on througout the half and their pressure paid off when an Alner corner brushed the crossbar and Connor Tate was in at the far post to power the header into the roof of the net.

Marcus Symmonds then drove into the Budleigh half and was brought down. From the resulting free-kick, Tate drove a pinpoint, curling ball to the far post, where Joe Urquhart met it on the run, driving a brilliant volley past the keeper.

Budleigh heads were down and Uplyme ploughed on, dominant and seeking to kill the game off.

Freddie Andrews made an impact from the bench as he dribbled into the box, committed the keeper and his little square dink-ball found Urquhart to force the ball home for a super comeback.

New signing Bo Bobev nearly scored with his very first touch for the club, but his shot hit the inside of the post and bounced to safety.

It was a committed fightback and the second half reflected the great team spirit. Oli Alner's input was excellent on his final game before leaving to go travelling, as well as a superb effort from Jonnie Harris at right back with his support runs, calm distribution and positioning.
