Axminster Town are through to the second round of the Walter C. Parsons Funeral Directors Cup, beating neighbouring Ottery St Mary 2-1 at Tiger Way last Wednesday.

The victory was all the more sweet because Ottery had leap–frogged above the Tigers in the South West Peninsular Premier East division, having dropped two points in their 4-4 draw against Torpoint Athletic the previous Saturday.

Against Ottery, Axminster's goals came from Josh Wadham and Reece McCabe and Jamie Price was named man-of-the match.

Mananger Dan Prettejohn described the result as "fantastic", adding: "It was a result that we fully deserved."

Prettejohn was particulary impressed by Reece McCabe's match-winning header from a perfect Kieran Daniels delivery.

He said: "Young Reece climbed well and met the ball with a peach of a header. It was a fine goal and certainly one befitting of being the winner in a big derby cup game."

  • In a friendly on Tuesday evening, Axminster Reserves ran out 6-1 winners against Ilminster Reserves. The Tigers' scorers were Jon Hurford (2), Sam Dibling, Aaron Daniels Ryan Vickery and Jamie Barfoot.
