Axminster Town maintained their impressive start to the season , following their opening-day 5-0 thrashing of Newton Abbot Spurs on Saturday with a dogged 2-1 performance at home to Cullompton Rangers last evening (Wednesday).

It was not quite the sparking performance that thrilled the crowd on Saturday, but a deserved victory nonetheless, which sees the Tigers sharing the South West Peninsular Premier division lead with Brixham and Bovey Tracey.

The Tigers' first goal came from an own goal after a cross from Jamie Girton, with man-of-the-match Sam Winslade getting the second.

Rangers pushed hard in the last ten minutes but the Axe defence held firm.

The game was sponsored by AMS Electronics.

Axminster's next game is away to Sidmouth on Tuesday (August 17), kick-off at 7.30 pm.
